The Seasons

I'm writing this at almost the the exact time of the Vernal Equinox. And you can think of this as the First Day of Spring or the Middle of Spring.

The first day of spring is traditional.

The Middle of Spring relies on 'Cross-Quarter-Days' to define the start of the seasons.

One of the blogs I read is the 'Bad Astronomy Blog' and Phil Plait usually has a post about the Equinox each time it happens. This post: 'Fake Equinox' has a link to an earlier post 'Bad Seasons' which talks about starting the seasons on the cross-quarter days.

Well when I read that I thought, "Wow that sounds familiar!" and this is the web page that makes the same point 'Another Way Of Looking At When The Seasons Start'.

I first wrote the web page back in 2000 and I do note that Phil Plait wrote his in the late 1990's.

First Training Ride Of 2010

Distance ... 24.90 KM
AVG Speed .. 15.7 kph
Time ....... 1:34:41 hh:mm:ss

We traveled down to the Wake County end of the American Tobacco Trail (Rails To Trails) bike path.

We traveled this path last before they opened the Chatham County section.

It was open today and we went about a mile or so into Chatham County before reaching our turn-around point.

Today was a really beautiful day and the temperature was in the high 50s and low 60s a perfect day for the first bike ride of the season.

My knees did super. I think the riding actually helps them feel better. Which is a very good thing!

The New GO Board Arrives

A couple of days after the stones arrived the board arrived. I have actually played two games (and immediately lost them) in the beginners forum of Yahoo Games web site. I was checking my email using my iTouch and thought, "You know I bet there is an app for that!" Well ... duh ... of course there is a GO app for the iPhone. So I downloaded it and this photo album represents lesson 47 of the tutorial:
